Most of these components are also available separately. However, it is more economical to buy them in the kit package.
These DC conversion systems are suitable for economical conversions of small cars and pickups in the range of 1,800 - 3,100 lbs. original factory curb weight (not gross vehicle weight). This includes subcompacts and compacts, sports cars, and light pickups. They work with medium range battery pack voltages (96-144 volts), and require a manual transmission. They can achieve top speeds of 65-95 mph depending on chassis and pack voltage. Mileage per charge will vary from 20-40 miles for heavy vehicles to 80-100 miles for light aerodynamic vehicles. Range will also be affected by terrain, climate, traffic flow, and driving style.
The kits come in two types: Universal and Custom. We'll take just a minute to explain the differences, before we get into the specific list of components for each kit.
The universal kits contain the drive components that are common to any conversion. It is left to the installer to design and fabricate the pieces that will customize the kit to his or her chosen chassis. These installer-designed parts include battery racks and boxes, various component mounts, wiring looms, and suspension modifications. This type of kit will take about 200 hours to install. Most of this time is spent on design and fabrication.
The kits include the manual Convert It, which gives guidelines and assistance for designing and fabricating these pieces.
The one custom piece that is included in these kits is the motor/transmission adaptor. We have a substantial library of adaptor patterns, and often an adaptor for one model of car will cross over to another model that you might not expect. Check the list on our adaptor page.

This can usually be shipped to us by UPS, or Greyhound. If you are buying a kit from us, we will pay for the shipping in both directions. This is how we expand our library of patterns.
The custom kits have been specifically designed to fit a particular model of car. They will ONLY fit in the model(s) listed. They include all the drive components, battery boxes and racks, mounts and brackets, wiring looms, suspension modifications, and even the nuts and bolts, and some special tools. All you need to supply is the donor car and the batteries. No design, welding, or fabrication is necessary. Since this type of kit is completely pre-fabbed, it requires only about 40 - 60 installation time. It comes with a detailed installation instruction manual, with photos and drawings.

Fits all manual transmission Rabbits, including convertibles and GTIs through '84, and Cabriolets through 1993. Does NOT fit Golf, or Cabrios after 1993. Seats four with cargo space. Can be easily modified to fit Rabbit pickup, Jetta through '84, or Sciroccos. Left hand drive vehicles only. Features powdercoated battery rack and welded polypropylene battery box for acid resistance and electrical insulation. A 96-volt system gives a top speed of 65 mph and a range of 60-80 miles under good conditions (flat roads, smooth traffic flow, efficient driving style). The 108-volt option includes two extra batteries under the back seat, for a top speed of 75 mph, and an extra 10% in range. Can be installed in as little as five days. The high performance controller can be substituted for more acceleration, or for severe duty use, such as hills and hot climates.

Fits all 4 cylinder manual transmission Porsche 914s (and ONLY 914s - NO other models, NO other makes, PERIOD. No 911s, no Ghias, ONLY THE 914). Features the same powdercoated battery racks and welded polypropylene battery boxes as the Voltsrabbit Kit, plus a large motor and 120-volt system for 85 mph top speed and 80 - 100 miles range. The high performance controller can be substituted for more acceleration, or for severe duty use, such as hills and hot climates. The rear trunk still has usable cargo space, and will accept the targa top. Can be installed in as little as six days.
